Managing possible duplicates within the Marketing 360® Listings app is an important piece of communication between your business info and the many different platforms where the info gets published.
Sometimes, the platforms detect similar information between a listing that may already exist or a completely different business. The Listings technology looks for similar business information, such as the address or phone number to detect a possible duplicate.
It's up to you to determine which profile should be crowned the highest honor as the listing you control and update.
Manage Duplicate Listings
The panel on the Duplicates page shows you the platforms where your business may have conflicting information and the opportunity to take action to clean it up.
Platform | The third-party site where your listing information may be duplicated |
Location |
The business info Marketing 360 wants to sync with the platform |
Duplicate Listing | The business info the platform suspects may be a duplicate profile |
Status | The current status the platform detects for duplicate business info |
Suppression Type | The action the platform will take if you choose to suppress |
Action - Suppress | Approving the 'suppression type' action for that platform – giving the platform only the listing information from Marketing 360 to publish |
Action - Not A Duplicate | Disapproving the 'suppression type' action – leaving the given 'duplicate listing' live alongside your listing and breaking the connection between the two |
Suppress Action
You may want to suppress a duplicate listing if it is definitely a profile for your business. Sometimes, these connected platforms will have outdated info like an old address or phone number.
It's good to suppress these old listings so that the info sent via the Listings app is what customers will see when they visit that platform.
You'll have to confirm that you do, in fact, want to suppress the duplicate listing. Don't worry if you accidentally hit 'suppress' when you didn't want to. Our team verifies every suppression to make sure it wasn't done by mistake. We'll only suppress real duplicates.
Not A Duplicate Action
Sometimes, the connected platform detects enough similar data that – to the robots – it looks like the same business but it really isn't. For example, if your business is in a building with the same main address and different suite numbers, you do not want to override your neighbor's listing.
Click 'Not a Duplicate' if the business info in the Duplicate Listing column is not related to your business. This will keep both your business listing and the other business separate on that platform.
Duplicate Review
Marketing 360 will automatically scan supported publisher sites once a month to identify potential duplicates, which you can take action on at any time. Suppression requests are reviewed by Marketing 360 and/or the publisher to confirm that they are for duplicates of an existing listing. Do not use this feature to suppress listings that are not duplicates of an existing listing
Timeline
Review usually takes no more than 24 hours, after which suppression happens immediately on many sites. Other sites may take up to one week or longer.
Result
Suppression causes listings to be removed from search results on the publisher. In most cases, the URL of the suppressed listing redirects to the correct listing, but sometimes the old URL shows the new content or returns an error.
The status of your suppression request will appear on the Duplicates tab.
Manage Multiple Locations
If your business has more than one location, it's important to connect each of those to Listings separately. Every location deserves to have the correct information published across all platforms!
Easily switch between connected locations using the 'location switcher' in the top right.
It's an additional cost per location to connect with Listings, so reach out to your Dedicated Team or connect with our Customer Success team to get set up today.
