There are a few different ways you can add a Button to your website. Two ways are through the Pages dashboard, and the other is through the Design tool.
All of the methods outlined here require you to have your URL ready to input in the Enter URL field, so be sure you have that before creating your button! You are also given the option to type in the title of a page on your website to link the button to another page.
- Add a button within an existing content block
- Add a button content block
- Add a "Button" to your navigation menu
Add a button within an existing content block
There are two methods to add a button within an existing content block - within the Pages dashboard, and within the Design panel.
From the Pages dashboard
- Select the Pages tab at the top of your Websites app, and open the page where you'd like to add a button.
- Navigate to the content block where you would like to add a button (this will most likely be a Text block or Simple List content block) and enter the text that you'd like to appear on the button (i.e. "Click Here").
- Highlight the text, and then select the "Insert Button" icon above the description field (see image below for reference).
- Click on the empty text box that appears. You can paste in a URL for an external link, or you can use the drop-down menu to select another page on your website.
Optional: Click the Open in a new window icon if you'd like the button to open a new window in the visitor's browser. If the icon is blue, then the link is set to open in a new window.
- Then, click the Add button and wait for the blue check mark to appear, signifying that the change has been saved.
The text will become surrounded by a rectangle to signify that it is a button, as seen below. You can edit the text inside of the button by clicking inside of the text.
From the Design panel
- Select the Design tab at the top of your Websites app. Inside the preview window, navigate to the page that has the text you'd like to turn into a Button.
- On the preview window, highlight the text you would like to make into a Button. In the pop-up box that appears, select the Create/Remove Button icon.
- Select the blue Save button.
The button will appear in the preview window. To edit the placement, appearance, and design of the button, navigate to the Buttons option on the right-hand sidebar, and click to expand the section. This is where you can edit the design settings for the button(s) in this content block. Click Save when finished.
Add a button content block
The steps above show you how to add buttons to content blocks that already have content within it. However, if you want a standalone button, you can add a button content block.
- Select the Pages tab at the top of your Websites app, and open the page where you’d like to add a button.
- Select the (+) button at the bottom of the page or in between the content blocks, where you'd like to add the standalone button.
- Select Button from the menu that appears.
- In the Button field, you can paste in a URL for an external link, or you can use the drop-down menu to select another page on your website. In the Text field, enter the text that you'd like to appear on the button.
Optional: Click the Open in a new window icon if you'd like the button to open a new window in the visitor's browser. If the icon is blue, then the link is set to open in a new window.
To edit the appearance of the button, click Design this page at the top of the page. In the Design preview window, click directly on the button. Its design settings will appear on the right-hand sidebar.
Add a button to your navigation menu
You can add a button to your website's top navigation menu to highlight a call to action (for example, a button saying "Call Us" or "Apply Now"). To add a button to your navigation menu:
- Select the Pages tab at the top of your Websites app.
- Click the + Add A Page button at the top of the page.
- Check the box next to Navigation item. Click Add to confirm the selection.
- A new page titled "Navigation item" will appear at the bottom of the page. Click on it to open it.
- In the Type field, select Button from the dropdown menu.
- In the Text label field, enter the text you'd like to appear on the button. In the Link field, you can paste in a URL for an external link, or you can use the drop-down menu to select another page on your website.
Optional: Click the Open in a new window icon if you'd like the button to open a new window in the visitor's browser. If the icon is blue, then the link is set to open in a new window.
To edit the appearance of the button, click Design this content at the top of the page to open the Design panel. On the right-hand sidebar, navigate to the Buttons section to edit its design settings.
