You can add custom processing fees for different payment methods at your store's checkout. You can choose a fixed amount, or a percentage of the purchase. This comes in handy in cases where you must pay a transaction fee to your payment provider, or an additional fee charged by a Cash on Delivery (COD) service.
The fee will have your store's standard tax rate applied to it (even if a product has a special tax rate), and will display on order details, notifications, and invoices.
Note: Before adding payment method fee, make sure it is not prohibited by your payment provider or country regulations.
Add a fee to a payment method
To add a fee to a payment method:
- Select Payments on the left-hand sidebar of your Shop dashboard.
- Select a payment method.
- Scroll to the Payment method fee and select Add payment method fee.
- Enter the amount you want to charge. To charge a percentage instead of a flat amount, click on the dropdown and select %.
- (optional) In the section labeled Payment instructions for customers, click Set payment instructions at checkout and add an explanation about why you charge fees. This note will display at checkout.
- Click Save.
The extra fee will now display during checkout along with the order total.
Remove fees from a payment method
To remove fees from a payment method:
- Select Payments on the left-hand sidebar of your Shop dashboard.
- Select the payment method you would like to remove fees from.
- Scroll to Payment method fee and select Remove fee.
- (optional) If you included an explanation for the fees, remove it from the Set payment instructions at checkout field.
- Click Save.
